We’re looking for a hands-on Head Brewer to lead our highly skilled team

Our purpose-built brew house is less than 12 months old, expertly designed and situated at our new head office in the Ribble Valley. Our beer has always been at the heart of our business. The Head Brewer must ensure that we continue to innovate and move with the times, whilst staying true to our roots and the 212 years of Thwaites’ brewing heritage.

Your day to day;

  • Managing all of the day to day brewery operations
  • Ordering and maintaining stock
  • Successfully plan production to meet demand
  • Ensuring the range of 5 core beers are produced consistently, in line with taste and quality standards
  • Development of seasonal beers to compliment the core range
  • Motivating and developing the team of 4 brewers
  • Maintaining strict health and safety standards
  • Using your experience and knowledge to solve any problems as they arise

Who are we looking for?

You will enjoy being in a hands-on role with a passion for all things beer and brewing. You must have proven experience and be credited with a recognised brewing qualification.

We do not produce any small pack and currently cask all of our beer however, we may look to move in to kegging in the near future. Experience of both of these processes is advantageous. We are on track to produce 9,000 barrels this year and supply solely to our own properties.

You must have a creative mind and be able to develop recipes that stand out in a challenging market. You will embody the Daniel Thwaites’ principles of Innovation and Craftsmanship, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the industry.

Understanding how to motivate a team is vital, you will be a mentor and coach to a high performing team of brewers who all have vast experience. There is also potential to take on an apprentice in the future.

You should have strong business acumen and be able to control costs whilst meeting demand. An understanding of budget planning and monitoring would be advantageous.

In return, we are offering a rewarding role with scope for career progression along with;

  • A competitive salary, negotiable dependent on experience
  • 33 days annual leave
  • Health cash plan
  • Generous employee discounts
  • Life assurance
  • Bespoke training programmes accessible to all
  • An engaging & supportive work environment

It's an exciting time to join our business, we’ve invested over £70m into the business in the past three years and recently moved into our new home in the Ribble Valley - a purpose built £8m office, that boasts its own Grade II listed building, a brewery and stables. We’ve also recently launched our hotels, spas and inns under a new collective as the House of Daniel Thwaites and so, with ambitious plans, you'd be joining us at a great moment in time to drive our business and brand forward.

Thwaites was established in 1807 and to this day remains a family run Business. We have Hotels, Inns, Pubs and a Brewery and are focused on providing superb hospitality in outstanding properties in great locations –
